Frequently Asked Questions
Before You Book
-
I work with adults who are navigating the many complexities of being human—particularly those moving through trauma, burnout, grief, identity exploration, life transitions, relational wounds, or periods of deep questioning and change.
My practice is especially welcoming to people who have felt unseen, misunderstood, or out of place within more traditional or mainstream spaces.
-
No. My practice is exclusively focused on adult individual counselling.
I do not currently provide counselling to children or youth.
-
No. You don’t need a formal diagnosis, a specific label, or even a clear understanding of what’s “wrong” to begin therapy.
You can come simply because something isn’t feeling right, you’re going through a difficult transition, you’re feeling stuck, or you want a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences.
-
Fit matters. Therapy asks you to be vulnerable, and you deserve to feel safe, respected, and understood in the room.
That’s why I offer a free 20-minute consultation before beginning. It’s an opportunity for us to meet, talk about what you’re looking for, ask questions, and get a sense of whether my approach feels right for you.
You don’t need to make a decision during the consultation.
-
The consultation is a relaxed, low-pressure video call. I’ll tell you a little about myself and how I work, and you’ll have an opportunity to share what brings you to counselling and what you’re hoping for.
You can also ask any questions you have about the process, fees, scheduling, or my approach.
The goal isn’t to begin therapy in 20 minutes—it’s simply to see whether we might be a good fit.
-
Yes. I welcome Indigenous clients in my practice. My work is informed by Indigenous ways of knowing, Two-Eyed Seeing, and a decolonial perspective, and I recognize the ways colonial systems and ongoing social realities can shape our experiences of wellness and healing.
I do not currently offer counselling through the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) or accept FNHA-funded counselling benefits.
If you are an Indigenous client looking for private-pay counselling or hoping to use extended health benefits that cover Registered Clinical Counsellors, you are welcome to reach out to see whether my practice is a good fit.

There isn’t one right answer.
For many people, weekly or biweekly sessions provide enough consistency to build a therapeutic relationship and create momentum, particularly at the beginning of counselling.
Others may benefit from a different rhythm depending on their needs, schedule, and capacity. We can talk together about what feels sustainable and supportive for you.
-

Recurring sessions are generally scheduled in three-month periods. This gives you a consistent place in my calendar while still allowing us to adjust your schedule as your needs change.

All clients have access to my self-booking calendar, where you can view and book available appointments within a rolling two-week window.
Clients with recurring appointments are given priority access to those reserved spots. Once those spots are filled, remaining availability is available through self-booking.

Many extended health plans provide coverage for Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs). I do not direct bill extended health plans. A receipt is provided after each session for you to submit directly to your insurance provider. Coverage varies by plan.

Safety, Privacy & Scope
-

I’ll also encourage you to choose a private, comfortable space for your sessions whenever possible.
-
My practice is not a crisis or emergency service.
If you are experiencing an immediate mental health crisis or are at risk of harming yourself or someone else, counselling with me may not provide the level of immediate support you need. In those situations, you’ll need to access emergency or crisis services that can provide immediate assistance.
We can also discuss your support needs during our consultation to determine whether my practice is an appropriate fit.
-
To protect confidentiality and the integrity of therapeutic relationships, I do not provide counselling to members of my own family or those close to my family members.
I also generally do not work with partners, immediate family members, or others who are closely connected to an existing client when doing so could create a conflict of interest or compromise confidentiality.
If you’re unsure whether a connection would create a conflict, please reach out before booking and we can discuss it.
If you’re unsure whether this applies to your situation, please reach out and we can discuss it.
-
My practice focuses on individual counselling for adults and is not a crisis service.
I do not currently provide couples or family counselling, counselling for children or youth, forensic assessments, court-related assessments, or counselling specifically for legal proceedings.
If I’m not the right person to support what you’re looking for, I’ll be transparent about that and, where possible, help point you toward a more appropriate resource.
